Technically, it's not fall yet, but you'd never know it in my house. The throw pillows on the couch and chair have been replaced with warmer colors, summer blankets have been switched out with cozy fall ones, pumpkin spice candles are lit every night, and new artwork hangs on the wall.

I am still in the process of creating my gallery wall above my couch, but in the meantime, I have a narrow space between my wall and window that I like to hang a canvas on. I wanted to display a painting that could be kept up from September through November that represented the fall season. I looked through Instagram and Pinterest and found several cream colored pumpkins with black backgrounds. They were just what I was looking for.

I found a large canvas I had painted flowers on years ago that I didn't really like and painted over it with black acrylic paint. I had to use two coats to cover the vibrant blues and greens of the previous painting.
White chalk to sketch out my pumpkin was an excellent tool. I love how easy it is to wipe the chalk off with a dry or damp paper towel because I had to do the sketch a few times to get the dimensions correct, but once I did I was ready to paint.
My color mix consisted of cream, white, and beige for the base of the pumpkin and brown and black for the shadows. I painted with the curves of the pumpkin to give it a smooth finish. I love how it turned out.

My babies (Oliver and Vinny) love how it turned out too. They have taken over the recliner, which I'm ok with. They look quite perfect in this setting.

I painted this little cutie from the watercolor book, Watercolor with Me in the Forest by Dana Fox. She has 3 Watercolor with Me books and all 3 of them are fantastic. The page on the left is the picture drawn out and the opposite page gives step by step instructions and the colors you'll need to paint with.

In this painting exercise I drew the same picture 3 times then painted each one using a different medium. The top one is watercolor, the middle is gouache, and the bottom is acrylic. The purpose of this exercise was to see which one I thought looked best and which one I was the most comfortable using. It kind of backfired. I like all of them for different reasons and I enjoyed painting with each medium. My conclusion: decide on which medium to use on a painting by painting basis.
Have a great week!
Rebecca ~
