From The Weekly 5 to Palettes & Peonies

There's been a change on the blog! What was formerly The Weekly 5 is now Palettes & Peonies. As much as I enjoyed The Weekly 5, I wanted to veer more toward my passions; art, photography, crafts, home accents...a creative life. I will be posting my latest art, craft projects, how-to, upcoming events and so much more. That's the Palette part. And the Peonies...they're my favorite flower.

Krewe of Mutts Parade

The Gulf Breeze Parks & Recreation Center will be hosting the Krewe of Mutts Parade this Saturday, February 25th. Dogs of all sizes will be dressed to impress in hopes of winning the costume contest (and just for fun). Vendors will be set up between the beach volleyball courts and the fields. It's going to be a lot of fun. It starts at 10 am and lasts until 2 pm. I hope to see you out there.

Bayside Market at Seville Square

This fun and exciting new weekly market includes art, jewelry, food, and wreath vendors. When you're not shopping for handmade goods you can enjoy one of the outdoor games (corn hole, anyone?!) or create your own art with sidewalk chalk.

The grand opening celebration will be on March 12, 2023. There will be live music, face painting, and more. Come out and join us!

Small Art, Big Impact

I tried something new this week - mini (3"x4") acrylic house paintings. This little cottage reminds me of a house you would see on the beach back in the 1950s. Thankfully, these homes still exist.

I switched gears a bit and painted a small Mediterranean-style home. I love the warmth of the wood and terracotta and the clean, bright white of the house.

I'm really pleased with how the grass turned out. To create this look I used a flat brush, starting with the lighter green, and tapped the surface with the top of the bristles. I came back with a darker green and tapped in spots I wanted to create shadows. This is something anyone can do. If you decide to give it a try, I would love to see your artwork.

Celebrating Artists

This week I'd like to celebrate the beautiful work of GonWithTheWaves. I met this talented artist this week at Bayside Market at Seville Square and enjoyed talking with her all day (our booths were next to each other). She has so many great ideas and products. The above photo features just a few pieces of her amazing resin jewelry and candle holders. One thing that makes them even more special is she uses real seashells - many of them locally found. The quality of her work is excellent. You can find her at markets around town and on Instagram at gon_with_the_waves.
