When I was a young girl my Halloween costumes consisted of a plastic Casper the Friendly Ghost mask and a plastic covering that went over your clothes. Sometimes I would pick Wonder Woman or Raggedy Anne as my costume. I loved them all.
But things are a lot different now then they were in the 1970s and costumes have gone to a whole new level of awesome.
Although I loved the mass produced costumes when I was little, my creative side craves something more. Below are five costume ideas sure to make you stand out and feel amazing.
Bollywood Dancer

Some of the most beautiful and glamorous costumes are worn by Bollywood dancers. The colors, the gold, the jewels. There is so much beauty in this one photo.
How do you create something this stunning? You could go to a costume shop and rent one, or go online and purchase one, or you can try to create it yourself.
Take a trip to your local craft store and purchase some bright beads and hoop earrings, bangle bracelets, a bright colored fabric to hang over your shoulder (that will match your skirt and halter top) and some fabric embellishments you can attach with fabric glue. Finish up with some bright nails polish and lipstick.
The Mad Hatter

Alice in Wonderland's Mad Hatter character isn't new, but he never gets old. Bright orange hair, mismatch clothes, a big bow, a lot of colorful makeup, and an epic top hat. So much fun!
This costume is perfect for someone who is full of energy and burst into a room, immediately drawing everyone's attention. Maybe that person is you?
Pocahontas

Powerful, strong, a leader, intelligent, persuasive, beautiful...Pocahontas.
It's been 400 years since her death, yet she is still talked about to this day for her heroic acts. Wearing a costume that represents her is an honor.
Jester
I do believe colorful costumes are part of my theme this Halloween.
Here's another brilliant and festive costume that could be used more than once in a year, if one dares to go to Mardi Gras in New Orleans.
Jesters were entertainers during the medieval and Renaissance eras. They were loyal to the royals they served and were able to get away with a bit more than the average person.
Elf Fairy

I couldn't resist a touch of Sci-Fi pretty. Add a delicate touch to your costume this year by adding pink hair (or dying your own), a gold headband with butterflies, and glitter and gem embellishments around the eyes.
No matter what costume you decide to wear this year, make it something you love, something you'll walk out of the house feeling good in. Then go have some fun!
